Neustrelitz

Neustrelitz (24.000 inhabitants) is situated in the midst of the Neustrelitz lake district and Müritz National Park. It is a regional centre of administration and trade, with a big service and production sector in the district of Mecklenburg-Strelitz.

The town offers a wide variety tourist attractions: the State Theatre, the Town Museum, the Orangerie, the Hebe-Temple, the Karbe-wagner- Archives not to mention boat on the lakes, cycling and hiking in the great forests of the National Park.

Neustrelitz City Church

The town was founded in 1733 as a place ofMecklenburg-Strelitz. It reached its prime in the second half of the19th century when people from Berlin were looking for places to relaxin summer. Artists were especialy attracted to its beautiful locale andbuilt their summer houses there. Until 1933 Neustrelitz was the statecapital of Mecklenburg. With the exception of a big railway factoryNeustrelitz had hardly any industry and it was regarded as a town ofcivil servants and craftsmen.

Neustrelitz is an ideal starting point for trips toBerlin or to the Baltic Sea (Rügen etc.). There are lots of bicyclepaths for bicycle tours.
