A live testimonial of the rural part is the Hohenlohe Freilandmuseum in Wackershofen. More than 50 historic buildings were moved into the museum from all over Northern Württemberg. They exhibit everyday life, residential life and work of our ancestors living in the country side. However, instead of a rigid and stiff museum display, the top motto is a vivid sympathy: The 40 ha area is husbanded following ancient cultivation methods, farmer's gardens are arranged and cattle is being kept. Several times per year, cooking takes place in the historic kitchens, craftsmen present traditional working methods and even farmers show their former activities. The old traditions continue to be nourished with baking oven festivals and Schlachtfest (feast of freshly slaughtered animals).
