Loughborough, with 46.000 inhabitants, is located in the East Midlands between Nottingham and Leicester, in close proximity to the hills of Charnwood Forest. Loughborough is an improtant industrial centre with traditional textile, pharmaceutical and heavy industry. It is a multicultural town with a large number of different religions and cultural centres. Each year in autumn the number of inhabitants rises when students arrive from all over the world to study at its university and colleges.
Among the many sights are the preserved Great Central Railway, the Bell Foundry Museum, the Carillon, the Old Rectory Museum and All Saints Parish Church.
Loughborough is a ideal place for holiday makers. It is possible to reach many interesting destinations from there. The partner town isaccessible via Nottingham East Midlands Airport. It is only a two-hour trip by train from London and the coast is 75 miles away. Beacon Hill offers an excellent view over the town. Bradgate Park with its old trees and the castle ruin, the birthplace of Lady Jane Grey, is another sight worth seeing.
The Twinning Committee in Loughborough provides great support for the partnership as it organises trips for citizens of Loughborough to Schwäbisch Hall every other year. The Circle of Loughborough Friends from Schwäbisch Hall also visits Loughborough in alternate years.
